GE Health’s campaign MIND (Making an Impact on Neurodegenerative Disorders) is in the spotlight of the VIRA – Social Media Index for the Healthcare Industry August edition. The international patient website www.mindonlinecampaign.com has been online for more than 3 years now and provides a platform for patients with diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and their caregivers. As part of the services, GE developed the application MIND for iPad that stimulates the brain of those afflicted with such diseases through activities related to music and art.
In line with the 2014 World Parkinson’s Day, GE leveraged the Google Plus "Hangout" technology to organise a live video-conference to connect patients with experts about Parkinson’s symptoms and challenges. The discussion was recorded and is now available on the MIND website.

Clinic blogs
The top 5 of the VIRA August edition is dedicated to social media activities of clinics. In Germany, clinics are still hardly using blogs to communicate with their audiences (only 17 clinic blogs in 2013 in total). However, blogs are a valid tool to provide health information coming from trusted sources, and to position a clinic and its clinicians as experts in their field. An example is the blog www.sprechende-medizin.com ("talking medicine") of the "Sana" clinics, which focuses on medical articles and provides a tool to directly contact the clinicians.

VIRA – Social Media Index for the Healthcare Industry
Established in August 2012, VIRA is a social media index that measures the social media activities of companies and brands in the healthcare industry in Germany. The ranking is based on these four dimensions: visibility, interaction, relevance and awareness, and covers data not only from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube but also healthcare portals, corporate and product sites, blogs and open communities.
